America's Leading Dentists Tested & Reviewed

If your gums look like this

or like this

and you want them to look like this

then congratulations, you've come to the right place.

And no. The answer is NOT which Oral-B or Sonicare model.

This is something most people have never heard of.

Every single toothbrush on the market — manual, electric, sonic, ultrasonic — works the exact same way. Friction. Vibration. Scrubbing. Physical contact.

And that's actually like trying to put out a fire with gasoline for receding gums!

Then Some People Found Something Else Entirely Different.

Look What Happened To Their Gums:

I also tried it:

I couldn’t believe it. After two decades of working in oral health. After years of knowing everything there is to know about gum recession. This one toothbrush did something I had never seen any other toothbrush do before. I became absolutely obsessed.

I needed to understand exactly how it worked. Why it worked. Why nothing else I had ever come across in my entire career had come close to doing what this thing did.

And once I figured it out, I just had to share it.

Because if you're dealing with receding gums and you don't know this toothbrush exists yet, you are genuinely missing out on something that could change everything for you.

Before We Continue, You MUST Know This

A toothbrush alone didn't restore my gum health. I want to be honest with you about that.

Getting my gums back on track required a combination of things like regular cleanings, some dietary changes, and of course staying on top of my dental appointments.

So if anyone ever tells you one product fixes everything, walk away.

But here's what I will tell you, and I mean this with complete conviction after two years of obsessive research and testing:

Of everything I did, the toothbrush made a huge difference. By far. It compounded the effect like A LOT.

Because you brush twice a day, every day, 365 days a year. It's the one habit you never skip. And if the tool you're using during that habit is actively working against your gum health then nothing else you do will fully compensate for it.

Swap that one tool for something actually designed for gum recession and watch as everything else you're already doing starts working harder. Results come faster. The compound effect is staggering.

Extremely Smart First Principle Design

Title

Researchers at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine — one of the most prestigious dental institutions in the world — recently validated a groundbreaking discovery in gum health.

For the first time ever, there is now a completely new type of toothbrush that doesn't just clean your gums, but actually works with your body to help them heal.

At the core of its technology is what’s known as the bioelectric microcurrent technology.

Bioelectric microcurrent is NOT the same as electric toothbrush.

Instead of relying on only friction and scrubbing, it works by emitting millions of tiny, silent microcurrents directly into your gum tissue while you brush.

Sounds like 2050 right?

A Summary Of The Science

Title

Your body uses electrical signals to heal damaged tissue. It's how wounds repair themselves. These bioelectric microcurrents essentially tap into that same natural process, triggering your gum tissue to heal from within.

At the same time, the electrical field from the bioelectric microcurrents reaches below the gum line — where no bristle has ever been able to go — disrupting the bacteria sitting in those deep pockets that conventional brushes simply cannot touch.

Impressive Numbers From Clinical Research Data

Title

After just 4 weeks of use:

  • 75% Reduction in gum inflammation
  • 59% Reduction in gum bleeding
  • 6x More plaque removed
  • 53% Reduction in bad breath
  • 51% Improvement in gingival index
  • 58% Less abrasive on teeth and gum tissue than an electric brush
  • 67% Better cleaning between teeth

These came out of controlled clinical research validated at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine — one of the most prestigious dental institutions in the world.

Inflamed gums recede.

Infected gums recede.

Gums pull back when they are constantly being irritated and attacked by bacteria.

So when you cut gum inflammation by 75% and wipe out the bacteria causing it, you're giving your gums a real chance to stop receding and start healing.

See why America’s top 3 dentists recommend this toothbrush for healthier gums

When the clinical results came back, the research team couldn't believe what they were looking at.

75% reduction in inflammation. Gums healing. Bleeding stopping. In just four weeks.

They had stumbled onto something that millions of people really needed.

People who watch as their gum line disappears. Trying every solution on the market but getting nowhere.

So they decided to not keep it in the lab and put it in people's hands instead.

They took everything they had validated — the bioelectric microcurrent technology, the gum-healing research, years of clinical data — and engineered it all into a single toothbrush.

It's called Great Gums.

The first bioelectric toothbrush built from the ground up to heal gum recession.

Unlike every electric, sonic, or manual brush before it, Great Gums doesn't rely on vibration or friction. It uses low-level microcurrents to work directly on your gum tissue at a cellular level.

The Technology Big Dental Doesn't Want You To Know About

Title

Dr. Silvana Barros, Senior Director of Clinical Innovation at Colgate, reviewed the research behind Great Gums and called it "a major advancement in oral care technology."

The bioelectric microcurrent mechanism at the core of Great Gums is protected by a patent. That means Colgate, Philips, Oral-B — none of them can replicate it, reverse-engineer it, or build their own version of it.

And here's the thing about billion-dollar companies.

The moment they achieve monopoly, they stop innovating.

Why would they pour money into developing something that makes their entire existing product line look outdated? Of course they wouldn't.

I mean seriously think about how Google barely touched their search product for more than a decade until ChatGPT came along and forced them to scramble. Same thing is happening in oral care right now.

Their whole empire is built on the mass consumers believing that the next electric or ultrasonic model with slightly more vibrations per second is the pinnacle of oral care technology.

Genuine innovation threatens that. So they either ignore it. Or worse: they quietly do everything in their power to make sure the truth never reaches you (this is especially true in the pharmaceutical world).

Bioelectric microcurrent technology doesn't just compete with that model. It makes the Big Dental’s model (rotation + vibration) obsolete.

There's one place you can get this patented technology.

How does bioelectric microcurrent technology help with gum recession?

Title

Your body runs on electricity.

Not the kind that powers your TV. Tiny, invisible electrical signals that your body uses to do everything — move your muscles, fire your nerves, and most importantly — heal itself.

Ever cut your finger and watched it heal over a few days? The moment that cut happened, your body sent a tiny electrical distress signal to the damaged tissue. Like an alarm going off. And that alarm triggered a flood of repair activity — blood rushing in, new cells being built, tissue knitting itself back together.

Injury —> Electrical Signals —> Trigger Repair Activities.

Your body uses electricity to fix itself.

Bioelectric microcurrent technology takes that exact same healing signal — the one your body already knows how to use — and delivers it directly into your gum tissue while you brush.

Millions of tiny, silent electrical pulses sent straight to your gum cells to trigger repair activities.

And your gum tissue responds by waking up, firing up, and getting to work repairing the tissue.

Think of it like jump-starting a car battery. The car already knows how to run. It just needed that initial spark to get going.

That's exactly what Great Gums does to your gums. Every single time you brush.

Okay cool but … if my body already knows how to send that healing signal, why isn't it doing it on its own?

You have to understand this: your body's healing electricity is designed for sudden, dramatic injuries.

You break a bone. You cut yourself. The damage is immediate, obvious, and your body fires that electrical alarm signal instantly.

But gum recession is silent and slow. It creeps in over months and years — so quietly that most people don't even notice until a dentist points it out.

There's no dramatic injury. No alarm going off. Just a slow, grinding cycle of chronic inflammation that gets worse and worse over time.

And research has documented exactly what happens next.

Chronic inflammation — the kind silently destroying your gum tissue — actually makes your gum tissue progressively less responsive to the body's own healing signals.

The longer the inflammation goes on, the weaker the response gets. It's like a phone with a dying battery trying to send an SOS — the signal is there, but it's too weak to get through.

So your gum tissue isn't broken per se. It's just not getting the electrical signal it needs.

And that's exactly what Great Gums delivers. Directly. Every time you brush.

Electric Toothbrushes Are A Cheese Grater On Your Gums.

Great Gums Is The Surgeon.

Title

Think about what an electric or ultrasonic toothbrush actually does.

It rotates and vibrates. Hundreds of times per second. A tiny mechanical jackhammer pressed directly against your teeth and everything around them including your gum. Including your already thin, already sensitive, already receding gum tissue.

Every brush session, that vibration is grinding against the exact tissue you're trying to protect. It doesn't know the difference between a hard tooth surface and a delicate gum edge. It just ... scrubs. Everything. Indiscriminately.

That may be cleaning but certainly not stopping or healing gum recession. For someone with receding gums, that's slow, daily damage dressed up as oral care.

Great Gums has zero mechanical movement. Zero abrasion on your gum tissue.

Because it doesn't need to vibrate. The electrical field is doing the heavy lifting work — not the bristles.

And unlike every electric or sonic brush ever made, it's focused on your gum tissue and its healing. The part that every other brush on the market has been ignoring since the very beginning.

What's Actually Eating Your Gums Alive, And How Great Gums Solves it

Title

To stop gum recession — and give your gums a real chance to heal — you have to also deal with the thing that's eating them alive in the first place.

Bacteria.

Right now, inside your mouth, there are colonies of bacteria living in the tiny gap between your teeth and your gums. Sitting 3 to 4 millimetres below your gum line where no bristle has ever reached.

And they're not just sitting there quietly.

They're producing acid. Triggering inflammation. Slowly eating away at the tissue and bone holding your gum line in place. Day after day. Quietly. Invisibly.

That inflammation is what's driving your gum recession.

This is also where all other toothbrushes completely fall apart.

Your Oral-B, your Sonicare, your manual brush — they can only scrub the surfaces they can physically touch. That's it.

But for the bacteria hiding below the gum line? Untouched. Every single time.

This is like mopping the floor while the pipe underneath is still leaking. Looks clean on the surface. Problem's still there.

Great Gums works differently.

The bioelectric field it emits doesn't need physical contact to work. It reaches into those gum pockets — past where any bristle can go — and disrupts the electrical charge that bacteria use to anchor themselves to your tissue.

Bacteria use an electrical charge to anchor themselves to your teeth — like a ship dropping anchor. The bioelectric field disrupts that charge. No anchor. The bacteria lose their grip and get swept away.

Disrupting the bacteria’s electrical bond = Cutting off the bacteria's anchor.

Disrupting the bacteria’s electrical bond = No colony. No inflammation.

Stop the bacteria → Stop the inflammation → Stop the recession.

Killing The Inflammation Means Killing The Recession.

Great Gums Does Both.

Title

Most people think bleeding, swollen gums are just an annoyance. They're not. They're a warning.

When your gums are inflamed, your body is essentially in a constant state of emergency. Immune cells are flooding the area. Tissue is breaking down. Bone is being eaten away underneath.

And the longer that fire keeps burning, the further your gum line retreats.

Inflammation is also the engine driving your gum recession.

This is where Great Gums does something no other toothbrush can and why it is truly the best toothbrush designed for gum recession.

Killing bacteria is only half the story.

Here's what's actually happening inside your inflamed gum tissue when you use Great Gums and why it works.

Title

When your gums are chronically inflamed, your cells are essentially running on empty. They want to repair themselves. They're trying. But they don't have the energy to do it.

Every time you brush with Great Gums, the bioelectric microcurrents flow directly into that inflamed tissue and they supercharge your cells' energy production by up to 500%. Suddenly the cells that were desperately trying to repair your gums actually have the fuel to do it.

But that's just the beginning.

Chronic inflammation also means your body's natural healing signal — the one that tells your immune system where to send repair cells — gets weak and stalls out over time.

Like a distress signal with a dying battery. The microcurrents essentially rebroadcast that signal at full strength, attracting the cells responsible for building new collagen and healing gum tissue directly to where the damage is.

And while all of this is happening, the electrical stimulation is also widening the blood vessels in your gum tissue. Fresh, oxygenated blood rushes in. This flushes out the pooling inflammatory fluid that was causing that swollen, puffy, angry-looking gum line.

The swelling goes down. The destruction slows. The healing begins.

Electric toothbrushes can’t do this. Ultrasonic toothbrushes can’t do this. No other toothbrush on the market does any of this. Not one.

Clinical research showed a 75% reduction in gum inflammation after just 4 weeks of use of Great Gums. The engine driving your recession — 75% quieter.

The tissue that was being slowly destroyed every day — finally getting a chance to breathe, to stabilise, to heal.

Is Great Gums For You?

Title

If any of these sound like you:
✔ Your gum line is visibly pulling back and it's starting to scare you
✔ You're tired of seeing blood on your toothbrush every morning
✔ Your dentist keeps telling you your gums are getting worse despite doing everything right
✔ You've tried electric brushes, sonic brushes, sensitive toothpastes but nothing's working
✔ You're terrified of the words "gum graft surgery"
✔ You're done throwing money at outdated electric, ultrasonic toothbrushes
✔ You want fresher breath, firmer gums, less sensitivity
✔ You want your next dental checkup to actually bring good news for once
✔ You want to do something that genuinely works and not just something that feels like you're trying

Then Great Gums is exactly what you've been looking for.

Every day without the right tool is another day the problem quietly gets worse. Past a certain point it becomes very hard and very expensive to fix (a gum graft surgery costs at least thousands).

Hi, I'm doctor Barry Bartusiak. I'm a dentist with over 34 years of experience. Gum disease is a serious issue in our country. The best way to combat that is with this toothbrush. Sonic gums by great gums. The gums are the foundation, the teeth of the house. If we have termites in our home foundation, we have a major problem.

00:00:17:23 - 00:00:34:27
We need to get those out before we would do any home remodeling. The same holds true with our mouth. We have to take care of the foundation, the gums as well as the teeth. Gums go first. The best way to do that is with this toothbrush. Nobody in America woke up this morning, said, oh, I get to have a scalpel to take care of my gums.

00:00:34:29 - 00:00:40:24
Let's be preventive and take care of those issues before they arise. With the great gums, toothbrush.

Hi, I'm Dr. Jeremy Ueno. I'm a periodontist here in Campbell, California. I've been practicing periodontist since 2009. We tried a lot of different toothbrushes out there. Most of them have only been sonic technology. Finding the sonic and bioelectric technology all in one has been absolutely amazing. My wife's a general dentist. When she first tried it for the first time, she actually threw away our sonic toothbrush.

00:00:22:02 - 00:00:34:12
It's been awesome to me as a periodontist, my wife, as a general dentist. We recommend it to everybody. The focus on the gum health is fantastic with this brush, and we definitely recommend it to all of our patients here.

Hi, I'm Luiz Pimenta, a professor in the Division of Prosthodontics at Columbia University in New York and one of the authors of the Great Gum's bioelectric toothbrush. Clinical trial. This was a four week, randomized, examiner blinded study in adults with mild to moderate gingivitis.

00:00:17:14 - 00:00:23:04
Participants were assigned to the bioelectric toothbrush and A.D.A accepted manual toothbrush control or a sonic powered toothbrush.

00:00:23:04 - 00:01:04:08
Compared. Everyone used the same fluoride toothpaste twice daily. We assessed plaque index, gingival index, and bleeding and probing at baseline and at four weeks, including baseline adjusted analysis compared with the manual toothbrush control by an electric brush showed meaningful relative improvements across endpoints in baseline adjusted outcomes. About 15% for plaque index, about 42% for gingival index, and about 39% for bleeding on probing versus the sonic comparator, gingival inflammation outcomes favored the bioelectric brush, while plaque and bleed outcomes were comparable in adjusted pairwise testing.

Written By: Sandra Mitchell – Registered Dental Hygienist & Oral Health Researcher

22 years in clinical dental practice | Periodontal Health Specialist | Contributing Writer, Oral Health Magazine & RDH Magazine

Sandra Mitchell spent over two decades working chairside in periodontal care at a private dental practice in Boston, Massachusetts: watching patients come in year after year with the same frustrated look on their faces. They were brushing. They were flossing. And yet their gums kept receding anyway.

After transitioning from clinical practice to oral health research and writing, Sandra has dedicated the last six years to independently evaluating dental products, specifically those targeting gum disease, gum recession, and periodontal inflammation. Her clinical background gives her a lens that most oral care device reviewers simply don't have: she knows what works in theory, and she knows what actually holds up in the real world.

Her motivation for this particular review is personal. At 51, Sandra noticed it in herself first: the early signs of recession she had spent decades identifying in her patients. That diagnosis sent her down a two-year rabbit hole of testing every gum care device and technology claiming to help.

What she found changed how she thinks about gum care entirely.

Her work has been featured in Oral Health Magazine, RDH Magazine, and Dental Economics.

About our findings

test setup

Over a 12-month period, our panel of 84 participants (all with varying degrees of gum recession) tested 21 toothbrushes across manual, electric, sonic, and bioelectric categories. Brushes tested included the Oral-B iO Series 9, Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000, Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100, Colgate E1 Smart Electric, Emmi-dent Ultrasonic, and Great Gums among others. Each participant was assigned one brush for a minimum of 8 weeks, brushing twice daily under consistent conditions. Dental assessments were conducted at baseline, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. No participant switched brushes mid-test to ensure clean, comparable data across all brushes.

gum health progress

Gum health was scored using the Gingival Index (0-3 scale, where 0 = perfectly healthy). We measured gum pocket depths in millimetres at baseline, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Target improvement: Gingival Index score consistently below 1.0.

bleeding

Bleeding was tracked using the Gingival Bleeding Index, measured at weeks 2, 4, 8 and 12. Our benchmark: clinically meaningful improvement required bleeding sites to drop below 10% (the threshold considered healthy by periodontal standards).

cleaning effectiveness

Cleaning Effectiveness Plaque removal was assessed using the Silness and Löe Plaque Index, with specific focus on interdental and subgingival zones. Halitosis improvement was measured by tracking volatile sulfur compound levels at 4 and 8 week intervals.

safety

Enamel abrasion was assessed through our dentist-led surface examinations at 4, 8, 12 weeks. Each brush was tested on implants, crowns, and braces. Gum recession progression was measured in millimetres at baseline versus 12 weeks to ensure no further damage.

pain & discomfort

Each toothbrush was tested specifically on exposed root surfaces and receding gum tissue. Discomfort was rated on a 1-10 sensitivity scale across 30 days of daily use. We specifically recruited testers who had previously abandoned electric brushes due to pain or sensitivity.
